Spooky Halloween Pasta

This nutritious, spooky dish is ideal to feed to your kids before a long night of trick-or-treating, it’s fantastically creepy but healthy too.

Makes 6


4.5 Cups/300g Pasta (wholemeal is more healthy, but white is fine)

6 Rashes of Bacon

5 Spring Onions

1 Cup / 100g Grated Cheese

1 Cup / 200g Mascarpone Cheese

1 tbsp. Lemon Juice

1/2 Cup / 120ml Olive Oil

1 Cup / 100g Kale

2 Ripe Avocados

2 Garlic Cloves (peeled)

A Bunch of Basil

Ingredients for Spooky Faces:

5 Pitted Black Olives (Sliced)

Smoked Cheese (Sliced in circle shapes)

8 Cherry Tomatoes

1 Bell Pepper (Sliced longways – like a tongue)


Preheat the oven to 180oc. In a large saucepan bring some water to the boil, cook the pasta to the pack’s instructions; when the pasta is cooked, drain and set aside.

Pop the basil, avocados, kale, olive oil, lemon juice and garlic into a food processor and blend until smooth; once the mixture has combined pour it into a bowl and set aside.

Slice the onions, and then cook them on a medium heat with a little olive oil, for a few minutes. When the onions are cooked, set aside. Next, cook the bacon on a gentle heat for around 4 – 5 minutes, or until the bacon is cooked through.  When the bacon is ready, slice it into small pieces and mix into the kale mixture, then stir in the cooked onions and cheeses, gently heat through, until all the mixture has combined.

Take your pan of drained pasta and pour it into the kale mixture; mix well, making sure all the pasta is covered. Pour the pasta into an overproof dish sprinkle with grated cheese and pop in the oven for 20 minutes.

When the pasta is cooking, cut up the bell pepper into 6 tongue shapes. Once the pasta is cooked, pop it on a plate and make a spooky Halloween face.
